Coastal Summer Camp in Harvey Cedars Registering

Jul 10, 2018

The American Littoral Society will hold a Coastal Summer Camp from Monday to Friday, July 23 to 27, at the Maris Stella Retreat Center in Harvey Cedars. Sessions run each day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the cost is $275.

Kate McElduff, a society education intern helping coordinate the program, said it is open to students in grades five to eight.

“It combines classroom work and field studies,” she said. “Some of our outdoor activities include marine life identification, environmental education, seining, water quality testing and fishing.”

The society promotes the study and conservation of marine life and habitat, protects the coast from harm and empowers others to do the same. Since 1961, the society has cared for the coast through conservation, education and advocacy. “Littoral” means the shore area determined from the middle dunes out to 40 feet depth in the ocean or river.
