Committed Care

To the Editor:

Despite an unpredictable and ever-changing healthcare climate, there is so much to be proud of at Hackensack Meridian Health Southern Ocean Medical Center. The past several years have been particularly exciting, with improvements to facilities and programs that are benefiting patients right here and in many locations throughout our community.

Our new Emergency Department sees more than 37,500 patients each year in a setting that reinforces comfort, privacy and compassion. An urgent care location in Ship Bottom and a RediClinic in Little Egg Harbor offer convenient, non-urgent healthcare options. Most recently, Southern Ocean Medical Center opened its new cancer center, which is an investment of more than $20 million to ensure that patients receive state-of-the art, comprehensive cancer care in one location. We expanded physician expertise in bariatric surgery, cardiovascular services, colorectal surgery, orthopedics and neurology so that patients can get advanced care close to home.

As part of Hackensack Meridian Health, local residents have even more access to new treatments, technology and seamless expertise right in their own backyard. One example: Southern Ocean Medical Center is now a member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering-Hackensack Meridian Health Partnership, which means cancer patients benefit from world-class cancer protocols.

I am extremely proud to be part of SOMC’s dedicated and passionate team that supports these and the many other areas of the hospital. Our commitment to safety and quality in health care has led to remarkable accomplishments, including being named a finalist for the prestigious “Hospital of the Year” award by NJBIZ

Other reminders of the great care we give include being awarded an “A” grade from the nationally recognized LeapFrog Group, indicating the hospital has the highest safety standards; and, achieving Magnet status, the “Gold Standard” for nursing practice, quality and safety in patient care from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Accolades from the Joint Commission include accreditation for the Stroke-Level 1 Center, as well as accreditation for our Bariatric Center. These numerous awards acknowledge the diverse expertise and quality care available at SOMC.

We have been caring for the community for more than 40 years. As we ride the tides of change into the future, we remain dedicated and committed to caring for the communities we are so honored to serve.
