Connolly Dermatology, which offers a full range of dermatologic services to treat patients of all ages, recently celebrated the grand opening event of The Connolly Dermatology Medical Spa, at 175 Gunning River Rd. in Barnegat. Dr. Coyle S. Connolly, a board certified dermatologist with over 20 years of experience, is committed to public education as it pertains to maintaining healthy and cancer-free skin. In addition to dermatological needs, Connolly Dermatology is now offering medical spa services to enhance the appearance.

“It’s about looking and feeling your best,” said Nicole Grifo, a medical aesthetician at the medical spa with over 10 years of experience. “And only a board certified dermatologist can scientifically analyze and treat your skin. True clinical dermatologists can be hard to find, especially with the proliferation of salons, spas and skincare centers that offer facials, laser treatments, hair removal and other treatments. Consider the advantages of being treated by the professionals at Connolly Dermatology.”

The medical spa offers eyebrow threading and facials to medium-depth chemical peels and everything in between.

The office is currently offering complimentary aesthetic consultations with its medical aesthetician to all new and existing patients. Dr. Connolly offers both Botox and Juvederm to treat the signs of aging and to rejuvenate the overall appearance of the skin.

To schedule an appointment, call 609-926-8899, extension 1117.

Coinciding with the occasion of the grand opening of the medical spa, Grifo offered an autumn skin care question and answer article.

Should I switch my skin care with the season change?

As the season for pumpkin spice lattes and cooler evenings approach, you may notice that your skin looks and feels a bit drier than it did during the hot summer months. It is wise to change your skin care the same time you change your wardrobe. Maintaining proper barrier function of the skin requires appropriate moisturizing due to the decreased humidity in the colder months. Consult with a professional to create a personalized skin care regimen.

What skin care line do you recommend?

There are many skin care lines to choose from in today’s marketplace.  We are inundated with advertisements for creams, serums and potions that claim to be a “face lift” in a jar. Using medical grade products, quality ingredients with organic components, and little to no parabens, fragrance and dyes are very important. If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, avoiding things like mineral oil and petroleum are very important to avoid further clogging of pores. In all of our treatments at the medical spa, we offer an exclusive prescription grade line formulated by Dr. Connolly. We offer everything from an anti-aging to acne products.

Is fall a good time to tackle your skin rejuvenation goals?

Fall is the best time to work toward your skin rejuvenation goals. Many people experience exposure to the sun during summer, which can lead to dehydration, sun spots and wrinkles. Below you will find some of most popular treatments and what they target.

Chemical peels can be used to aid in the treatment of acne, to treat hyper-pigmentation (melasma) and also for fine lines and wrinkles. We offer several different types and strengths of peels.

Dermaplaning is the scraping off of dead skin and vellus hair, or “peach fuzz,” from the surface of the skin. This treatment leaves skin looking and feeling smooth, glowing and lush.

Micro-needling is a procedure that uses very thin, comfortable needles to promote collagen growth. This procedure improves discoloration, fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks and scarring. You won’t feel discomfort during the treatment as we use a topical numbing cream. There is little to no down time for this treatment, and the results are amazing.

How did you get into the field of cosmetic dermatology?

I began my career as a makeup artist. I had some amazing experiences with people from all walks of life. I worked with several Miss USA contestants on their portfolio photoshoots. It was a very rewarding career.

At the end of the day, I felt that many individuals were so focused on covering up their skin imperfections instead of improving them. I decided then that I wanted to be a part of the solution. I educated myself and found my passion in medical aesthetics.

I truly find joy in helping men and women look and feel their best. I am ecstatic about what we are doing at The Connolly Dermatology Medical Spa. We have perfectly combined the relaxing experience of a spa with clinical, results-oriented treatment. We are creating a new aesthetic culture in South Jersey.
