Correcting the Record

Oct 03, 2018

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter to correct some misstatements made by Ken Bank in his letter (“Burdensome Taxes,” 9/19).

Barnegat Mayor Caputo was not censured because of any dispute over appointments of Mr. Lisella or Mrs. McCabe. Mayor Caputo wasn’t even on the township committee when Mr. Lisella was appointed. Mayor Caputo not only voted for Mrs. McCabe, but signed her contract. This was never a problem.

Mr. Bank states that the township committee hasn’t made any improvements in the township. I suggest you visit Project Playground, the renovated township pocket parks, the skate park, the football and softball fields. Then ask the police department if they are better equipped.

The township increased ambulance coverage, saw the Barnegat 67 retail opening, enforced a tougher property maintenance ordinance, enacted a nuisance ordinance that helps us drive out drug dealers, eliminated healthcare benefits for all elected officials, enacted an ordinance that would prevent any township official from applying for a township job for a period of two years after leaving the committee, encouraged Barnegat pride and brought residents together by fully supporting and participating in the Neighborhood Watch Program in town.

Enough with the political misinformation already. The truth is the truth and the people of Barnegat can see it for themselves.

Alfonso Cirulli, deputy mayor

Barnegat Township
