Who makes the best sugar cookie in Bay Village and Schooner’s Wharf in Beach Haven? Apparently, it’s Country Kettle Fudge, which was voted best by holiday shoppers converging on the area last Saturday.

Coming in second was Chick’s LBI Shop, while Buddy’s Pet Stop was voted third. This was the fourth year of the competition.

“I made elephant ears,” said Julia Kurdyla of Country Kettle. “I used brown sugar and cinnamon.”

Other participants were Will it be Breezin’ Up, Song of the Sea, Beached, Yuletide, Spice It Up, Ship Bottom Brewery, The Coffee Bouteaque, Jenna Jane’s Jewelry, Surf Shack South, Coconuts and Tropics, LBI Book Swap and Little Chick’s Children’s Shop.

“It’s a fun day because we’ll get plenty of people here doing their holiday shopping,” Kurdyla said. “Residents and visitors are invited to taste a cookie from each participating store.”

“And it doesn’t take much to get people to come out when you promise them a free cookie,” added Jack Julian, owner of Yuletide.  —E.E.
