Aug 08, 2018

Substance abuse and related issues are on the rise throughout Ocean County, but residents of Stafford Township and surrounding communities can join the discussion and make a difference Thursday, Aug. 16, when the DART Prevention Coalition comes to the Bay Avenue Community Center in Manahawkin from 5 to 6:30 p.m. With the event designed to help develop the 2018 Ocean County Substance Use Needs Assessment, DART will be on hand to gain feedback from the community, gathering local information that will help further the advancement of local substance abuse prevention programs.

The DART Prevention Coalition is an initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health’s Institute for Prevention and Recovery, a leader in the state for prevention, intervention and substance use disorder services. DART focuses on preventing underage drinking, prescription drug abuse and the illegal use of marijuana and tobacco in Ocean County. DART is comprised of community leaders including law enforcement and government officials, educators, business owners, substance abuse professionals, clergy and youth.

The community center is located at 775 East Bay Ave. For more information or to register for the workshop, call Jen McBrien at 609-597-1000, extension 8573. —D.B.
