Discover Barnegat Light Day With a Jeep Show, Tours, Concert, Merchant Events

Jul 05, 2017

Discover Barnegat Light Day, on Monday, July 10, is full of special events and welcoming tours designed to spotlight the unique experience of visiting the town.

The Barnegat Light Tourism Coalition hosts the day’s events, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., for the fourth year.

At the bayfront gazebo on West Eighth Street, find the featured events: a Jeep Show by day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and an outdoor concert by night with “The Following” at 7 p.m.

Be sure to stop by and vote for your favorite Jeep because the winners are chosen by public voting. Trophies will be awarded at 4 p.m.

To register your Jeep in the display, contact BLTourism@yahoo.com. Registration fee is $15. Any classic or custom Jeep product can be included in the show, plus Wranglers of any age. The Manahawkin Jeep dealership will also be on hand with some new Jeeps for viewing.

The day’s events this year revolve around three “loops” throughout town: an Activity Loop, a Food & Beverage Loop, and a Shopping Loop.

Merchants sited on each of the loops are highlighted on the event’s official route map, which may be obtained throughout town the day of the event, or by contacting BLTourism@yahoo.com for your e-copy.

To really get the feel of the town, visitors are encouraged to do the loops by bicycle. Event bicycle rentals are available at a 33 percent discount from LBI DreamMakers, located at Eighth Street and Central Avenue.

The Activity Loop includes a tour of the commercial fishing operations at Viking Village, which is one of the busiest commercial fishing ports on the East Coast. At Sixth Street and Bayview Avenue, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light will once again participate with a boat tour.

Various merchants will feature events and specials, such at the Tea & Tour at the Sandcastle Bed & Breakfast and Face Painting at Poppy’s Ice Cream Parlour.

And what’s a visit to Barnegat Light without a climb up the lighthouse? All in all, there is so much to see and do.

Raffle tickets will be available throughout the day for chances to win one of the many giveaways that will be awarded at the beginning of the evening concert. Last year, over $2,500 in prizes were awarded.

Dan Malay, president of the Barnegat Light Tourism Coalition, invited, “Come join us!  It’s always a great day of local town pride, and an opportunity to interact with residents, vacationers and visitors alike, as we highlight some of the aspects that make Barnegat Light such a special place to live and visit.”  —M.S.
