Pet lovers came through for a request that a Van Dyk Group insurance executive put out for donations for the Friends of the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter.

“Over 200 items were collected, ranging from cat and dog food, treats, blankets, dog beds, cat scratch pads and towels, just to name a few,” said organizer Jonathan Frank, an account executive in the Commercial Insurance Department at the company’s Barnegat office.

“There will be lots of purring and tail wagging,” thanked Dottie Reynolds, co-president of the Friends volunteer group. “The homeless cats and dogs in the shelter know they have not been forgotten, thanks to all the donations collected for them by the Van Dyk insurance agency, and thanks to all the generous people who contributed the items.”

Frank delivered the goods Wednesday, June 13, with tremendous thanks from the staff at the shelter.

The initiative was part of the Big “I” GIVE Movement conducted by Trusted Choice agents, Frank said.

“It was a national campaign to raise funds and/or items for a charity of our choice. I am proud to say that I was one of only two agents who participated in this campaign in the entire state of New Jersey.”

He put donation boxes at Van Dyk Group’s Barnegat, Manahawkin and Long Beach Island offices from June 1 through 12.

“I cannot thank those who brought in donations enough for their wonderful contributions,” he said. “Cats and dogs are a part of many of our lives, and they aren’t just pets, but another member of our family. I would believe that our pet companions hold a special place in all of our hearts.

“The Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter also holds a special place in my heart as that is where I adopted my dog, Benny. At the time a 7-year-old yellow Lab, he is now an old man at the age of 14 and thriving.” —M.S.
