Suzie Yengo of Catch a Rising Star is back in Southern Ocean County.

Yengo, a Jersey girl who spent the summers of her youth enjoying and working on LBI and who is now the CEO of Catch a Rising Star, used to promote comedy shows at Surflight Theatre. But the theater’s closing for two years due to bankruptcy, and the decision of Surflight’s current brain trust to promote its own comedy shows, left her scrambling to find appropriate venues on the Island or the adjoining mainland.

This year she found a new summer home for her shows: Joey Harrison’s River House at 361 East Lacey Rd., Forked River.

Dom Irrera will perform two shows over the long Memorial Day weekend, at 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 26 and 27.

That will be followed by a Father’s Day “Shut Up and Eat” dinner show at 3 p.m. on June 17 featuring Vinny Pastore and Al Sapienza of “The Sopranos” and Garden State legend Uncle Floyd Vivino. After that the laughs will come in rapid fire: Ryan Maher will appear there on July 5, RC Smith on July 12, Dean Napolitano and Jen Hellman on July 19, Mike Marino on July 26, Rob Bartlett on Aug. 2 and Bobby Collins on Aug. 11.

Irrera appeared on the 19th episode of the fifth season of “Seinfeld,” playing Ronnie Kaye, a comedian and friend of Jerry’s who famously told his buddy, “You’re like Rosa Parks. You opened the door for all of us.” He also appeared in “The King of Queens,” “Damon,” “Becker” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” and as himself on 11 episodes of the animated series “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist.” He’s currently the Judge on the DirecTV show “Supreme Court of Comedy,” and has been on numerous TV talk shows.

But Irrera, 69, is best known as a standup comic, active since 1982, with much of his humor springing from his childhood growing up in an Italian-American extended family in Philadelphia.

Tickets for Irrera’s shows run from $18 to $37.45 and may be purchased online at catcharisingstar.com.  —R.M.
