Drink Coffee With a Cop in Harvey Cedars

Jul 18, 2018

While you probably enjoy having your morning coffee at home, Harvey Cedars suggests that on three upcoming Fridays, you drink a cup with a borough police officer.

The police department is planning “Coffee With a Cop” on July 27, from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Neptune Market; Aug. 3, from 9 to 10 at Black Eyed Susans; and Aug. 17, from 7 to 9 at The 1690.

Police Chief Robert Burnaford said that during those hours, the establishments would be serving coffee free of charge.

“Coffee With a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about our department and what we do in Harvey Cedars,” said Burnaford. “Some people may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop can break down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-to-one interaction.”

He said the outreach program was launched in the borough in 2015.

“A lot of our summer people will be down, so I’m sure many of them will want to chat with the officers and get updates on what has happened since last fall,” said Burnaford. “In the first year, we did one. Then we did two and now we’re going to do three. There was a steady flow of customers. We thank the hosts for being generous in providing the free coffee. We also hope the events help them increase their business and attract new customers.”

In addition, the department is holding “Pizza With the Police” on Tuesday, July 23, from 4 to 6 p.m.  Complimentary slices will be served.
