Drink Coffee With a Harvey Cedars Police Officer on July 1

Jun 21, 2017

While you probably enjoy having your morning coffee at home, Harvey Cedars suggests that on Saturday, July 1, you drink a cup with a borough police officer. On that date at Black-Eyed Susans from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., the police department will host the first of three “Coffee With a Cop” events planned this summer.

Police Chief Robert Burnaford said that during those two hours, the establishment would be serving coffee free of charge.

“Coffee With a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about our department and what we do in Harvey Cedars,” said Burnaford. “Some people may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop can break down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-to-one interaction.”

Other Coffee With a Cop events are Friday, July 14 and Aug. 18, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Oasis Grill.

“A lot of our summer people will be down, so I’m sure many of them will want to chat with the officers and get updates on what has happened since last fall,” said Burnaford.

He said the outreach program was launched in the borough in 2015.

“In the first year, we did one,” said Burnaford. “Then last year we did two, and this year we’ll have three. There was a steady flow of customers. We thank the hosts for being generous in providing the free coffee. We hope the events help them increase their business and attract new customers.”
