Enough of the Snow, Bring on Summer 2018

Are you getting tired of the snow? I certainly am. I’m ready for spring and summer to arrive.

A few weekends ago, my husband and I decided to head to the beach to enjoy the tease of some spring weather in the middle of this way-too-long winter. Anything above 40 degrees felt like a tropical heat wave with all the below-freezing and single-digit temperatures we had been experiencing. So why not take advantage of some preseason weather to kickstart our memory and momentum toward spring?

When you think about it, summer is around the corner, and heading to LBI just seemed like the thing to do on that wonderful warm weekend. I even attempted to open my sunroof just to see if it was tolerable. OK, that might’ve been a little too much, but you can’t blame me for trying.

Though the Island was quiet, there were many who ventured out to enjoy the beautiful weather and sunshine. People were scanning the beach, searching for the perfect seashell. With 2017 behind us and a new year underway, I was eager to see what was getting ready to transpire on the Island. I was not disappointed. The usual places were open, so we could enjoy a taste of what was, and signs were in windows telling us of what was yet to come.

We took our trusty dog to the beach for some last-minute romping before the signs go up telling us that “only humans” are allowed there. Some, though, may question the presence of certain humans on the beach sometimes. We made sure to pick up cans and other trash left on the beach. Keep it clean, people!

Following our excursion to the shore, the month of March seems to be giving us all a run for our money. Winter is still digging in its feet for one more hurrah. With the recent rain making the roads more like rivers and the forecast of more snow (as of this writing), it’s hard to keep in mind that this, too, shall pass and spring truly is on its way.

But get your beach game on, people. In a few more months the bathing suits will come out and we’ll be wondering why the heck we ate that last holiday cookie after we look in the mirror. Well, maybe just some of us!
