Evening of Compassion

May 30, 2018

To the Editor:

Artful Noir was an evening of elegance, of fine art, music, fashion and fun, organized by Cricket Luker of Wildflowers and Wildflowers Too. It was an evening of compassion, of raising money to care for pets and their owners in need of help.

The Friends of the Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter’s new fund, “Someone Helped Me,” makes it possible for pets with serious medical issues to remain with their owners, rather than being surrendered to the shelter, all because: someone helped them.

The wonderful evening was made possible by the generosity of Congressman Tom MacArthur and his wife, Debbie. They kindly opened their beautiful shore homes and gardens to the Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter and provided many amenities including delicious hors d’oeuvres by Off the Hook. To top the evening off, their charitable foundation, “In God’s Hands,” donated generously to the new fund.

In addition to his work as a U.S. congressman in other areas, Tom MacArthur has cosponsored three bills for the protection of animals. We are very grateful for the compassion and support of Congressman Tom and Debbie MacArthur.

We also thank the many, many Artful Noir volunteers for FOSOCAS and the outstanding support from the public.
