Aug 29, 2018

Two elderly men were out on a fishing trip on Great Bay Friday, Aug. 24, that ended in tragedy. According to State Police spokesperson Trooper Alejandron Goez, a call to the U.S. Coast Guard was received at 8:46 a.m. The boat’s operator, 72-year-old Anthony Hermann of Galloway Township, lost control of the boat as they were traveling eastbound and it flipped near Marker 132. “Both occupants were ejected into the water and the vessel then struck John Zuccarino, age 85, of Linwood.”

The Coast Guard recovered both men and proceeded to Great Bay Marina, where Great Bay Regional EMS and the Mystic Island Volunteer Fire Co. responded. Zuccarino was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m. Hermann had injuries that did not require hospitalization.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated. —P.J.
