Favorite Teacher

Dec 06, 2017

To the Editor:

It is with great sadness that I announce the death of a dear friend and colleague, Anne Bjornberg, who passed away on Nov. 20. You may remember her as your favorite first grade teacher on Long Beach Island, where she taught for 30 years.

She came to LBI to spend summers during her college years, waitressing at Wida’s in Brant Beach. She met and married Andy Bjornberg and they spent many years as residents of Barnegat Light. Anne spent the last 20 years in Manahawkin, relaxing by her pool with a lovely lakeside view.

Anne had a passion for traveling, whether in the U.S., Canada or Europe. She was a competitive gamer, playing golf, bridge, mah jongg, dominoes or other “parlor games.” Her love of music and the theater led her to trips to New York, Philadelphia and Stockton to enjoy live shows. She was an avid reader and frequented the local library on a weekly basis.

Anne devoted much of her time to fundraising for Deborah Heart & Lung Hospital by hosting lunches at local restaurants each year. Her spunk and energy were contagious and will be missed by her family and many friends.
