FEMA Will Present Public Review of Nuclear Plant Drill

Sep 25, 2017

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will review the results of the bi-annual Oyster Creek Generating Station Radiological Exercise during a public meeting slated for 1 p.m., Sept. 29.

The discussion, which focuses on the Sept. 26 nuclear plant exercise, will be held at the Ocean County Office of Emergency Management located at the Ocean County Airport on Route 530 in Berkeley Township. The drill tests the response of nuclear plant workers as well as municipal, county, and state agencies to a simulated emergency at the plant in Forked River.

“The Ocean County Office of Emergency Management participates annually in drills that focus on the nuclear power plant,” Sheriff Michael G. Mastronardy said. “This year’s exercise will be monitored and reviewed by FEMA. The federal agency will look at the actions taken by the participants and will review it for both efficiencies and any deficiencies they may find.” —G.G.S.
