Former Councilman Edward Kohlmeir Remembered in Beach Haven

Jul 11, 2018

At the beginning of the July 9 Beach Haven Borough Council meeting, Mayor Nancy Taggart Davis called for a moment of silence remembering Edward Kohlmeir Jr., the former councilman who passed away earlier that day at age 47. She also asked for the flags at borough hall to be flown at half-staff.

Kohlmeir and Davis were both elected in 2010 in the election that ushered in Beach Haven’s change from the commission form of government to the council-manager form as prescribed in the Faulkner Act. Current council members Jim White and Charles Maschal were also elected at that time, in addition to former mayor Robert Keeler.

Kohlmeir, who was owner/broker of Sunset Harbour Realty in the borough, did not seek re-election when his term expired at the end of 2014. He also served on the land use board and once was interim chairman.

“He was an all-around good person to serve with,” Davis said. “He took great interest in upgrading public works and also helping our volunteer fire company get what they needed.”

“He was a good man, and it’s so sad to see a life cut short like that at 47,” said White. “He really loved Beach Haven.” E.E.
