Former Beach Haven Mayor Watson F, Pharo has presented the borough council with a decoy carved by his father more than 35 years ago. Appearing at Monday’s council meeting,  Pharo said his gift is a gesture “for the council doing a fantastic job.”

“And this new borough hall is so beautiful,” he said.

Pharo said the decoy, a life-size replica of a brant, has some history behind it. Its base was wood that was part of the original Ocean County Courthouse in Toms River when it was constructed in 1851.

“I love decoys; I have some at my house,” said Mayor Nancy Taggert Davis. “We’ll have to find a nice spot to put it.”

Pharo, 82, served as a borough commissioner under Beach Haven’s old form of government from 1970 to 1986, and was mayor the last four years. He currently serves as a member of the Ocean County Utilities Authority board. —E.E.
