Former Sheriff’s Officer Now a Beach Haven Patrolman

May 30, 2018

Hunter J. Ellenberger is the newest member of the Beach Haven Police Department as the patrolman was sworn into the position by Borough Manager/Clerk Sherry Mason at the May 14 borough council meeting.

His previous law enforcement experience included serving as an officer for the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and as a narcotics officer for the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

“He came highly recommended,” said Capt. Tom Medel. “He actually first set out to be a schoolteacher and had completed his certification requirements, but then decided that serving the community as an officer was what he wanted to do most.”

Ellenberger, 28, said he was attracted to the job because he “wanted to work in a shore community.”

“I grew up near Point Pleasant, so I’m familiar with what it is like to work in a seasonal town,” he said. “I know it’s going to get very busy real soon.”

Since he has completed his training at the Ocean County Police Academy, Ellenberger assumed patrol duties immediately. E.E.
