The Haunted Seaport in historic Tuckerton stretches over four dark, moonless nights this year, from Thursday, Oct. 18, to Sunday, Oct. 21, from 6 to 9. This year’s theme inside the Tucker’s Island Lighthouse is “The Creepy Carnival Comes to Town,” with everything you might dread – especially clowns who laugh with frightful glee, sure to haunt your nightmares.

Ghostly specters of drowned sailors and pirates hung from ancient yardarms make the haunted boardwalk a grisly obstacle course ending in a graveyard that’s not as quiet as we might wish. The “Forest of Fear Hayride” is an additional $5, and it’s said the Jersey Devil stalks the leafless, haunted woods.

These spooky treats are for the older crowd or the youngster who is immune to theatrical gore.

The Seaport also wants to entertain the younger set with an expanded kids activity area hosted by Jersey Family Fun. Non-scary activities for the little ones include making their own pumpkin slime, trick or treat bag, coloring a pumpkin, a hay-bale maze short enough for the toddlers to swing through, a Halloween dance party and games with treats. Magic shows by Joe Holiday are performed at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, plus two more shows added on Saturday and Sunday at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.

There will also be an activity area with a Ferris wheel bounce and slide and carnival games. Bring your cameras and iPhones for photo opportunities in the stocks and the coffin.

Food truck Cajun Jax will be on the premises to fill up those empty, butterfly-filled tummies.

Admission to the Haunted Seaport is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Children younger than 5 and Seaport members attend free.

The Haunted Seaport is located at 120 West Main St. in Tuckerton. For more information, call 609-296-8868 or visit tuckertonseaport.org. —P.J.
