Non-perishable food items are now being collected for Stafford Township’s Free Little Pantry, the Recreation Department announced Tuesday.

Eagle Scout Parker Petty initiated the project earlier this year.

Petty, his father and fellow Eagle Scouts built and installed pantry boxes in several locations around town to provide food for those in need. The boxes are now open and accessible to the public all day, every day, all year long.

They are located at Heritage Park (West Bay Avenue), Beach Avenue Park (77 Beach Ave.) and the Bay Avenue Community Center (775 East Bay Ave.), with one more box to be installed in Ocean Acres (location yet to be determined).

“Leave what you can, take what you need” is the intent. If you would like to help stock the pantry, leave non-perishable food, canned goods or personal care items. All donations are greatly appreciated, but refrain from contributing chemical products or sharp objects such as razors.

Users of the pantry are reminded to check expiration dates before consuming anything.  —V.F.
