Enjoy one of many out-of-this-world happenings at Ocean County College’s Robert J. Novins Planetarium this month, including a free astronomical star party on Saturday, June 17. The event runs from sunset to 10 p.m., weather permitting.

Members of the Astronomical Society of the Toms River Area will set up their telescopes in OCC’s Parking Lot #4, behind the planetarium, to share views of planets, stars and other visible deep sky objects.

Later in the month, at 6 p.m. on June 30, the planetarium will host a Mad Scientists PJ Night II, which features a family-friendly show, as well as activities and experiments. “We’ll even make our own fidget spinners and learn the science behind the spin,” the college noted. Tickets are $10 for all seats.

The planetarium also offers a number of laser shows – featuring, variously, the music of Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Bon Jovi – throughout June. Admission per show is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (60 and older) and $7 for children (12 and under). Family packs are $35 and include two adults and three children.

For more information, or to purchase tickets online, visit the Novins Planetarium website at ocean.edu. Tickets also go on sale at the door a half hour before the first show. For recorded show information, call 732-255-0342.  —J.K.-H.
