Begin the new year with a free, 7-mile, family-friendly “West Pine Plains Ramble.”

Come explore Bass River State Forest “North” which encompasses the West Pine Plaints Natural Area and the “Pygmy Pines” — the world’s largest acreage of this globally rare forest community. We will not be following the same route as last year’s First Day hike.

Children older than 10 with responsible adult are welcome and service dogs only please. Bring water and snacks. Wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. There are no restrooms available. Registration is required and capped at 25 participants. Hike is canceled if there are thunderstorms in the area or if heavy rain or snow is falling or the ground is snow covered. Light rain will not cancel the hike.

Call 609-462-6228 to check for cancellations.

Meet along NJ Rt. 72 at the eastern boundary of Coyle Field. Location is approximately 11.3 miles east of the intersection of NJ 72 and NJ 70 and approximately 2.4 miles west of the intersection of NJ 72 and Ocean County Route 539.
