Goodbye, NJ

Sep 19, 2018

To the Editor:

As a lifelong resident and voter in New Jersey, I am again disgusted by the amount of money spent by the top 25 special interest groups, more than $74 million in 2017.

Here is a small sample: IBEW Affiliates, $4.3 million; Operating Engineers Locals 825 and 68, $4.3 million; Democratic Governors Association, $3.2 million; Republican Governors Association, $2.4 million; Plumbers and Pipefitters, $2 million; Communications Workers of American affiliates, $1.6 million; Realtors, $1.5 million.

Election Law Enforcement Commission data shows Democrats received $20.4 million from PAC-type sources while Republicans received $3.6 million.

With Democratic Gov. Murphy and his current trend on financial affairs, we all should expect a major exit of New Jersey residents. Many of the wealthy, in particular, are expected to leave New Jersey.

Who are “they” going to tax when the wealthy leave? Will this exodus be due to the control of these PACs?
