Governor’s Priority

Jan 17, 2018

To the Editor:

There are valid arguments on both sides about offshore drilling, and not surprisingly, both New Jersey senators and the new governor are against it. Hopefully, they are against it because they are concerned with the environmental impact, but it could also be they are against everything Trump does.

Either way, the real concern here should be that New Jersey is not in a financial position to be noble. Raising taxes and legalizing marijuana will not be enough, so the new governor should welcome any chance for Jersey to fix its unfunded pension system before it disappears under bankruptcy. Offshore drilling can bring the state money. That should be the governor’s priority.

When a person’s pension disappears, does that person care about the environment or climate change?
