Great Success

Aug 29, 2018

To the Editor:

The flag officers and membership of the Surf City Yacht Club would like to publicly thank several individuals and organizations that made the recent Manahawkin RAM U.S. Optimist Dinghy Sailing Association New Jersey State Championship at Surf City Yacht Club last week a great success.

One hundred and forty-six sailors, ages 9 to 15, and from as far away as California and the Virgin Islands, were treated to two days of superb sailing competition on the breezy waters of Barnegat Bay. This event would not have been possible without our title sponsor, Manahawkin RAM, as well as contributing sponsors Marsh USA and BerkleyMed and sponsor G. Anderson Insurance Agency.

We are greatly indebted to the Surf City Borough Council, Chief Jack Casella and the Surf City Police Department, Kyle Costabile and the Surf City EMS and First Aid Squad, as well as Tom Hudson and the Surf City Public Works Department, for their assistance in running a smooth and safe event, and assisting us with traffic flow and parking. We appreciated the patience of our neighbors on Ninth and 10th streets, and apologize for any inconvenience, as we loaded and unloaded over 150 competition and support boats for the event.

Finally, thanks to the Long Beach Island School District for permission to use the Ethel Jacobsen School parking lot for trailer storage, thus reducing street congestion.

Hundreds of visiting families enjoyed our restaurants, amusements and friendliness of our beautiful, friendly Island during the event, all thanks to your support. We are grateful.

Ron Willoughby
