Motorists who have not been in Harvey Cedars since last fall will notice something different when a borough police car drives by. The police department recently revealed a new color scheme. Instead of going all silver, its two SUV Ford Explorers have a silver body and blue top.

The department’s other vehicles are a Ford F-150 utility truck and a Ford Crown Victoria patrol car.

“We repainted one of the SUVs and the other one was purchased recently, and that came with the new color scheme,” said Police Chief Robert Burnaford. Any other new police cars purchased will have the new look.

He said the color scheme will not change with the utility truck and Crown Victoria.

“It’s not unusual for police departments to change color schemes after a while,” he said. “Surf City and Barnegat (Township) also did it.”

Burnaford said officers gave input into the redesign.

“Doing this is a fun project,” he said Burnaford. “It never hurts to change things a little.” E.E.
