Harvey Cedars Seeks Grant to Fix Beach Walkways

Jan 31, 2018

Harvey Cedars is looking to finish beach walkway access improvements through a $35,000 Ocean County Community Development Block Grant.

Borough Clerk Daina Dale said the borough will utilize specially designed mats that are made of a hard plastic material.

“It makes for much steadier footing,” she said. “We have 31 beach entrances and we have done 21 so far. This grant would enable us to have mats on all the beach walkways.”

Dale said that at the end of the summer, the mats can be rolled up and stored during the off-season.

She said the grant also includes purchasing a special beach wheelchair for the 75th Street bay beach.

“People can sit in the wheelchair in the shallow water,” she said.

Dale said a public hearing on the grant application is scheduled at the next board of commissioners meeting on Friday, Feb. 2, 4:30 p.m.  —E.E.
