Harvey Cedars Tweaks Setbacks for Pools

Mar 07, 2018

An ordinance introduced by the Harvey Cedars Borough Commission on Friday would enable homeowners to build bigger in-ground swimming pools. The ordinance would shorten the rear-yard setback requirements from 10 feet to 5 feet.

“There were a few people in town who were looking to build pools, but they were going to have trouble meeting the setback requirements,” said Borough Clerk Daina Dale. “The land use board had asked us if maybe we could tweak the ordinance, and this seemed to be a reasonable compromise.”

A public hearing on the ordinance is scheduled for the next meeting, on Tuesday, March 20, at 4:30 p.m.

The commission also awarded a $332,000 contract to Alpine East Electric, Manahawkin, for improvements to the water department plant on 80th Street. Dale said the work will involve elevating the electrical panel, which she said is currently below flood stage.

“We’re also going to do improvements to the building and upgrade equipment,” she said. E.E.
