Hear Holiday, Gospel Hits of Elvis Dec. 9

Nov 16, 2018

Elvis impersonator Jim Barone will be presenting a concert featuring holiday and gospel songs on Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2:30 p.m. at the Wright Memorial Presbyterian Church, located at 330 Main St. (Route 9) in Barnegat Township. Admission is $15. Proceeds benefit the deacons’ charitable work in the community.

Barone said the concert will feature songs from Elvis’ Christmas Album. Released in 1957, the record was mostly known for the hit “Blue Christmas.” It also contained holiday standards such as “White Christmas,”  “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Here Comes Santa Claus”  and “Silent Night.” Other tracks included the bluesy “Santa Claus Is Back in Town” and “Santa Bring My Baby Back to Me.”

Barone said the concert would also include gospel songs, such as “How Great Thou Art,” “There’ll Be (Peace in the Valley) for Me” and “Take My Hand Precious Lord.”

“The only Grammy Elvis ever won was for his gospel album,” he said

A Hunterdon County resident, Barone has been performing Elvis songs for more than 25 years.

“I got interested when I was in junior high school,” he said. “For a while, it was mostly a hobby. I once was a union electrician, but then I started getting so many gigs, it became a full-time job.”

One place Barone often performs is the Lighthouse Tavern in Waretown.

“I know I have a lot of fans in the Barnegat-Waretown area, so I’m looking for a good crowd here,” he said.
