You’ll hear a mix of Motown favorites and classic soul when the Stafford branch of the Ocean County Library presents BJ Adams and the Band on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 6:30 p.m.

The concert will feature renditions made popular by the Temptations, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Jackie Wilson and more.

“Our music is very danceable, so people can get up and dance if they want,” said Adams, the group’s lead singer, who often interacts with audience members. “We’re all about having a good time. As we’ve discovered in past years, the libraries provide a great audience, so we’re excited about this show.”

The group’s frontman began his interest in singing while listening to gospel music at an early age. He was one of the featured soloists of the New Hope Baptist Church Choir in Newark, located in the same neighborhood that spawned stars including Dionne Warwick and Whitney Houston.

The band has appeared on TV on the Sally Jesse Raphael and Queen Latifah shows, and has also performed at such New York venues as BK’s, the China Club and La Bar Bat. Adams also is in demand as an entertainer for many private and political functions in the New York metropolitan area.

To attend the concert, call the branch at 609-597-3381. —E.E
