Hold It High

Nov 15, 2017

To the Editor:

With Veterans Day here and gone and our son facing yet another deployment to a war zone, a few thoughts occur to us. We realize that for those of us who don’t have a loved one serving in the military, it’s easy to forget what these brave Americans and their families go through. Perhaps the disrespectful NFL players and the people who are tearing down the symbols of our history and heritage should be sent to Afghanistan on an enlisted man’s pay.

Someone once wrote, “You and I sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence upon those who would do us harm.” It’s time to remember these “rough men” and women who risk everything and sacrifice so much for us. A very high price has been paid, and is still being paid, for our freedom. Respect it, honor it and hold it high.
