It’s been 30 years since Jack Dennis established LBI HotSpring on Eighth Street in Ship Bottom to provide portable spas and dependable service to customers on Long Beach Island and elsewhere in Ocean County. Now, his daughter, Ally Povlosky; one of his two sons, Shane Dennis; and a loyal faction of employees help operate the long-standing business.

In early September, in the upstairs of the establishment, Povlosky reminisced about running around the building as a kid. “We have all our markings for how tall we were in the back,” she said with a smile.

As Povlosky recounted, her parents first rented an office space in the building for their landscaping business. They eventually began selling and servicing hot tubs as well, and then, at some point in the 1990s, decided to focus exclusively on hot tubs.

“One unique thing about us is we’ve always only sold Hot Springs Spas,” headquartered in California, she explained. “My dad just always really liked them. They make everything in-house: parts, chemicals. And it’s all American-made.”

Povlosky said customers trust LBI HotSpring for all their spa needs, whether a purchase, supplies or maintenance.

As the website lbihotspringspas.com explains, “We have very dedicated and hardworking employees, and many of them have been with us since day one. … (We set) ourselves apart from our competitors, and we did that by selling the best: HotSpring Portable Spas. We’re all about quality, service and experience.”

Amy Woodring, who has worked for the business for 15 years, pointed out, “We’re one of the longest-running hot tub dealerships in the country. We have more hot tub experience than any other hot tub company in the state.”

The company has a spa showroom on the first floor of its building and, in addition to sales, offers hot tub maintenance, including openings and closings, and maintenance advice; pre-delivery site inspection; delivery and installation services; electrical service recommendation; parts, supplies and accessories; and relocation services.

“We cater to the Jersey Shore,” said Povlosky. “We only service Ocean County, so we’re unique in that. And when we do maintenance, we’re fast. We get it done.”

The shop in Ship Bottom is open Monday to Saturday, all year.

A second showroom opened in 2002 in Point Pleasant. “It is the mission of LBI Spas to provide the people of Ship Bottom and Point Pleasant with the most reliable fun and relaxation money can buy,” the website notes. “LBI Spas is committed to providing its customers with the highest level of service.”

As Woodring and Povlosky explained, following Superstorm Sandy the company’s employees not only had to track down hot tubs that had floated away from their stores, but also dug many customers’ spas out of mounds of sand.

Customer testimonies on the website include a note from Keith Johnston, who wrote, “No one could ask for a better experience than what you get at LBI HotSpring Spas. You are treated as family and the concern for your enjoyment and satisfaction starts the day you walk in the door and never ends.”

Another patron, identified as R.D., remarked, “I can say LBI has been hands down my best experience with any company at the Shore. In addition to the superior product they offer, their commitment to personal customer service is remarkable. From the sales staff to the service reps, everyone is focused on getting it right for the client. I have and will continue to recommend to all that ask.”

For homeowners who think a hot tub may be financially or logistically out of reach, the site adds, “You’ll find a spa in our showroom for every budget and backyard. Since the inception of LBI HotSpring Spas we have taken trade-in spas. By doing so we enable our customers to upgrade their HotSpring Spas to a new model when they’re ready. Then we take their used spa and refurbish it for resale. A good used HotSpring Spa has years of life in it and can be a first-time spa for someone who is on a tighter budget or wants to see if a spa or hot tub is right for them.”

This month, from Sept. 15 to 25, LBI HotSpring is running an Instant Rebate Event, with the opportunity to save $1,000 on a new Highlife Collection spa or Highlife Collection NXT spa, or $500 on a new Limelight Collection spa.

“Today,” the website states, “more than three million Americans are enjoying the therapeutic benefits of hot tubs in the privacy of their own backyards. Their growing popularity can be directly attributed to the many healthful advantages derived from sophisticated, state-of-the-art spas. HotSpring Spas are just that and more.”

LBI HotSprings is located at 319 West Eighth St. in Ship Bottom. For more information, call 609-361-0221 or visit lbihotspringspas.com.
