Inclement Weather Pushes Back Barnegat Avenue Roadwork in Surf City

Apr 18, 2018

The new season of sprinter, a combination of winter weather in spring, has delayed Barnegat Avenue road work in Surf City – again.

Phases three and four of the project, which encompasses 11th Street through Fifth Street, includes completing drainage installation, curb installation, roadwork and paving. Drainage installation was expected to be completed last week with curb installation beginning April 18 and going through May 9, according to Councilwoman Jacqueline Siciliano. Once that is complete, the roadwork and paving are anticipated to begin and run through May 23, she said. All of the work is being handled by CJ Hesse.

Phase five of the project includes drainage, concrete work, milling, paving and striping from Fifth Street to Third Street. Siciliano said. The drainage work was expected to be completed last week with concrete work beginning April 25 and going through April 30. Milling of the roadway is currently scheduled for May 10-11, she said. Paving is next on the to-do list with an anticipated May 11-14 time. Striping is the final piece, and is slated for May 18, according to Siciliano. The work for this project is being performed by Earle Construction.

The start and end dates of any roadwork project are weather dependent, she said, also announcing street sweeping has been rescheduled for April 30 through May 2 due to hydrant flushing. —G.G.S.
