Italian Classes Being Formed at LBI Foundation

Aug 15, 2018

If you speak a little bit of Italian and want to increase your knowledge of the language, now is the time to act. The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences will offer intermediate and advanced Italian conversation classes from the end of August into October.

The former will be taught on Thursdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. from Aug. 23 to Oct. 11. The classes cost $17 a day or $110 for the entire session. LBIF members get a 20 percent discount.

The advanced classes are scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 24. Once again, you can pay $20 by the day or $125 for the whole session.

The instructor will be Rita Kostopolous, who, after earning an MA from Montclair State University, taught in the Paramus School District, certified in Italian, French and Spanish, for 38 years. Her teaching earned her the prestigious Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and the New Jersey Language Teachers Award.

You never know where the Kostopolous classes will take you. Look what happened to John and Nancy Petralia: They took her Italian classes at the Foundation and ended up living in Italy for a year, turning that experience into two books, Not In a Tuscan Villa and Looking for Garibaldi.

Register for the classes online at or call 609-494-1241. —R.M.
