Know Your District

Sep 27, 2017

To the Editor:

I attended a political meeting two weekends ago and one of the speakers was Tanzie Youngblood, who is running in the primary election next June, in New Jersey’s 2nd Congressional District, to be the Democratic nominee. If successful, she will be running against Frank LoBiondo, the current incumbent.

In talking with some people from LBI, they were puzzled that a person running in the 2nd District would be at the meeting when we, the towns on LBI and all of Ocean County, are in the 3rd District. I explained to them that all of LBI and several towns in Southern Ocean County are in the 2nd District. We are the northern “panhandle” of the two districts that goes from Southern Ocean County down to Cape May County, across the southern part of the state to the Delaware River and up to Camden County.

I am concerned that the residents of LBI do not realize that they are in New Jersey’s 2nd District and that their representative is LoBiondo, not Tom MacArthur, who is the congressman from New Jersey’s 3rd District. (LBI was in the 3rd District prior to the last redistricting.)

Next year is a very important year because the entire House of Representatives is up for re-election. Consequently, it is important that the residents of Long Beach Island, part of Stafford, Little Egg Harbor, Eagleswood and Tuckerton know they are in the 2nd District and will have a choice between Frank LoBiondo and his Democratic opponent. I hope that opponent will be Tanzie Youngblood.
