LBI Automotive is a new full-service repair shop on the incoming causeway in Ship Bottom, but its owner is known and experienced.

For Pete Pianetti, the garage at 242 West Ninth St. is a chance to continue operating a business of his own, now at his own location.

Pianetti is an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence)-certified master technician and a General Motors certified master technician. “So, basically, I can work on pretty much anything.”

Local customers know his service as operator of East Coast Auto Repair at the former Gulf station on the outgoing Causeway before the lease on that site was up. The construction took a year and a half on the current property, which is neatly sited under a raised residence.

LBI Automotive handles service, repairs, diagnostics, tires, brakes, batteries, alternators, belts, the works.

One of the reasons for five-star reviews on Google might be that customers get the owner when their car needs attention.

“I’m personally going to be working on your car,” Pianetti said. “I’m a 25-year master mechanic who’s actually going to be working on your vehicle, not an 18-year-old kid. People would rather have that.”

Another distinguishing service is the free brake inspection that LBI Automotive offers.

One thing that customers should note is that service is done by appointment only, due to the limited space for storage of vehicles on the property.

Pianetti’s education in the business began at a technical school, Brevard Community College in Florida. “It was a full-on certified technical school. I got a degree in automotive technology.”

After his first employment for five years, he followed that up by working in a General Motors dealership for 20 years. At the dealership locations in Pleasantville and Toms River, his work included being in charge of the service departments. After that, I branched out on my own and before this, I was across the street at East Coast Auto Repair at the Gulf station for the last three years.”

LBI Automotive has been open since February.

By this first summer, a lot of his old customer base has found him. Others knew it would take a while to get the new garage built. New customers are finding him by word of mouth from past satisfied car owners, too.

“People knew me from across the street. And because I’ve been here for so long, even before I had a shop of my own, I knew a ton of people here, so it should be good,” said Pianetti, who has been coming to LBI since age 6.

He will be putting more signage along the busy road as permit processes allow, so that “people who didn’t know where I went from across the street, and that I changed the business name, can realize that I’m here now.”

The phone number to make an appointment or for more information is 609-342-8969.
