GO FLY A KITE: Approximately 50 invited kite flyers from around the globe descended on Long Beach Island last weekend for the third annual LBI Fly International Kite Festival to fly artist kites and giant inflatables, and to demonstrate sports kite flying techniques on Ship Bottom beaches. The three-day event included an indoor fly competition, a bol kite race, a main field for giant three-dimensional kites, the High-Flyers’ Art Market and Bazaar, and an illuminated night fly at Barnegat Lighthouse. Colorful kites and inflatables, from small to medium to large to humongous, in every shape could be seen by motorists coming off the Causeway Bridge as they drove toward Long Beach Boulevard, and from nearly a mile away in the Brant Beach section of Long Beach Township. —G.G.S.
