Beach Haven Mayor Nancy Taggart Davis and Southern Ocean Chamber of Commerce CEO Lori Pepenella were contributors on the New Jersey League of Municipalities Conference Tourism Panel in Atlantic City on Nov. 16. The panel members spoke of the need for supporting tourism funding, and the importance of Destination Marketing Organizations to local economic development.

The Southern Ocean chamber serves as the DMO for the Long Beach Island region. The goal of a DMO is to “professionally and consistently provide coordination of programming, marketing campaigns and metrics that measure the outcomes of tourism initiatives to the consumer,” speakers said.

The conference’s tourism panel also included Jake Buganski, acting executive director of the N.J. Division of Travel and Tourism; Judith Ross, vice president of the Meadowlands Regional Chamber and Convention Visitor Bureau; Devon Perry, executive director of Visit South Jersey; and Joseph Simonetta, executive director of the New Jersey Tourism Industry Association. —M.S.
