LBI Resident to Share Work Experiences at National Park

Nov 22, 2017

On Thursday, Nov. 30, 10 a.m., the Friends of the Island Library host a program on “Trail Building in Kings Canyon National Park.”

In a PowerPoint presentation, Southern Regional graduate Mia Maschal of Beach Haven will share her experiences of working and living in the back country as part of the California Conservation Corps. Clearing and building trails in the national park gave her a varied experience of hard work, primitive living, discovery of the beauty of nature and shared community.

The national park is located in the southern Sierra Nevada range in California. It features a glacier-carved valley more than a mile deep. The park also includes multiple 14,000-foot peaks, high mountain meadows, swift-flowing rivers, and some of the world's largest stands of giant sequoia trees.
