‘LBI Thank You Fest’ Planned for June

Jan 30, 2013

This year’s LBI Fest has a new name – LBI Thank You Fest – and a purpose that includes but also goes beyond celebrating the start of summer. According to Long Beach Township Mayor Joseph Mancini, the event, slated for June 15, will be a show of gratitude to all the agencies and organizations that assisted on the Island during and following Superstorm Sandy.

“We want it to be a big reopening party for the Island with everyone who helped us get here,” with food, entertainment and more, Mancini noted. He plans to invite all the first responders, National Guard, police and all others who helped out “to come back and just have a real good time.”

The township municipal complex in Brant Beach, and Bayview Park across Long Beach Boulevard, has served as the host site for the past three festivals and will again be the location this June. Details of the event will be announced as available.

According to the mayor, the township came up with the concept of LBI Thank You Fest but will talk to the other Island municipalities about participating.

Kevin Stretch, president of the Long Beach Island Business Alliance, which has sponsored the previous LBI Fests, said that group “is in the preliminary stages” of discussing its participation in this year’s event.  —J.K.-H.
