Learn What to Do When Pets Go Missing

Feb 13, 2019

“When Cats and Dogs Go Missing” is a free presentation Sunday, Feb. 24 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Manahawkin, covering “How to Prevent It and What to Do If It Happens.”

All are invited to the event held at Bay Avenue Community Center, 775 East Bay Ave., and sponsored by The Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter

Speakers will include Ashley Donofrio of Mama’s-Gona Rescue; Kelly Karch, Stafford Township animal control officer; and Debbie Geissinger, of Lost Dogs Search and Rescue of Ocean County.

“This topic has become so important, after having more than one shelter dog go missing shortly after adoption, the time of greatest risk for flight,” said Kathleen Ruskin, a member of the Friends and coordinator of the group’s volunteer dog-walking program.

“Too many of our companion animals go missing each year and we are hopeful that by providing the public with information about prevention, risk factors and what to do when the worst happens, that we can help families and their pets.”  —M.S.
