Urgent Care Now holds free monthly Lunch & Learn sessions on the first Friday of each month at the Bay Avenue Community Center in Manahawkin. On July 7, the topic of discussion will be “Lightning Injuries and Precautions,” presented by UCN’s Dr. Mark Meredith. The event starts at noon and includes complimentary lunch.

The Lunch & Learn series is a way to give back to the Southern Ocean County community by providing educational health-related information, according to Megan Lange, spokeswoman for the Manahawkin medical facility. The topics differ each month: antibiotic overuse and resistance, allergic reactions, chest pain and its many causes, concussions, opiate abuse, influenza, lung diseases and slip and fall prevention. The presenters are all members of the Urgent Care Now staff, including physicians, nurses and nurse practitioners.

Meredith is board certified in emergency medicine and has served as a director on the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He has been an examiner for the board’s certifying exam since 1982. He has served in numerous leadership and committee positions in the Burlington County Medical Society, the New Jersey chapter of the American College of Emergency Medicine, the Medical Society of New Jersey, the American Board of Medical Specialties and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Meredith has worked with Urgent Care Now since 2013 and serves as a site medical director and chief medical information officer.
