Little Egg Harbor Township is collecting personal hygiene products and nonperishable food and baby food for transport to Texas and the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Also needed are diapers, baby wipes, hand wipes, rubber gloves and trash bags.

The “Heart for Harvey” collection point is inside the Justice Complex and Town Hall, 665 Radio Rd., and will continue through Sept. 29.

On Facebook, Committeewoman Lisa Stevens said, “Think about what you needed the most after Sandy. ... I had no heat, which means I had no hot water. ... The very simple things of daily living that we take for granted were gone. I wanted dry shoes and socks, a toothbrush, wipes since I couldn’t shower.”

Stevens and others also held a “Chance to Chat” for survivors of Superstorm Sandy on Saturday at the Mystic Island Firehouse. Those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder after Sandy may re-experience their feelings of helplessness and fear during similar disasters. The drop-in afternoon was advertised as “a chance to chat for strength and comfort during the effects of Hurricane Harvey.” —P.J.
