Live Music Tuesdays at Meltdown

Jul 26, 2017

The recipe for a great summer evening is a lot like the recipe for ice cream: simple. Luckily for crew at The Meltdown in Beach Haven, they have gotten both right. Summer after summer, The Meltdown has been a destination for sandy-toed, tan-lined families to get their summer season ice cream fix. And now, along with the dozens of flavors of mouthwatering ice cream, the shop has added to the leisurely summer ambience by offering local live music acts every Tuesday night.

This has been a relatively new addition to The Meltdown and came as a result of the live music offered at the Delaware Avenue Oyster House on Sundays right across the street. So, three weeks ago the owners of The Meltdown decided they would follow suit and enlisted some local artists to provide live entertainment every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

“The Delaware Avenue Oyster House has live music every Sunday and it sounded so beautiful,” said Heather Beattie, manager and part owner of The Meltdown. “We figured we’d give it a try on Tuesday, which is typically a lighter night, and maybe this will draw more people to the shop.”

Another draw has been the new park that Long Beach Township just opened next to The Meltdown that has helped to draw even more crowds to the shop.

“We’ll provide the ice cream and music, then people can stay to enjoy the beautiful brand new park right next door,” Beattie said.

So far there have been two individual performers at the shop on Tuesday nights, Allison Stella and Sam Laubach, but Beattie and the rest of The Meltdown crew hope to continue growing it and make it a staple of live entertainment for years to come.

The Meltdown has worked hard for years to be “the neighborhood ice cream shop on LBI” and they have done that by continuing to foster a family friendly environment with their famous “Cone Zone” chalkboard and games, delicious ice cream, and now live music weekly.

“We really are so thankful for everything. It has been great,” said Beattie. “The Meltdown has become more than an ice cream shop to us.”  —Z.H.
