Local Developer’s ‘Eagle One’ Takes Off for Super Bowl

Jan 31, 2018

Patrick Moeller’s “Eagle One” recreational vehicle is a well-known mascot for what a dedicated fan family looks like. Philadelphia TV and online media featured the RV this pre-Super Bowl week, and everyone on the road between Long Beach Island and Minneapolis will see it coming as it heads west to cheer the Eagles on.

The 38-foot-long, teal-colored cheering section on wheels hit the road Tuesday night with its sights on the Super Bowl. On Tuesday it will go as far as the Philadelphia outskirts, and then Wednesday morning start the 20-hour trek to Minnesota.

It’s a destination that Moeller wouldn’t miss.

“Over the last 10 years I put over 120,000 miles on my RV just going to Eagles games,” said the Long Beach Island real estate developer, who keeps the vehicle on commercial property outside the Callan & Moeller Construction office in Ship Bottom.

The roadworthiness of “Eagle One” and the fervor of its owner are known to media outlets such as Philadelphia’s Fox 29 and Channel 6 ABC Action News.

“They actually kept my number from 2005, from the Eagles’ last Super Bowl game,” Moeller said.

Ask him whether Eagles team members themselves have seen it and the answer is “many times.”

“For a lot of the road games, I stayed at team hotels, and also over the years players have seen it at a couple of Eagles functions.”

Against all odds, even rival Giants fans have set foot inside.

Estimating that about 85 percent of the owners of the exclusive homes that Callan & Moeller Construction has built are Giants fans, he added, “In the past couple years, there have been 60 to 70 Giants fans I took to the game with me.”

The interior is decked out comfortably and appropriately in Eagles teal green. Even though the game time temperature on Super Bowl Sunday is forecast for a high of only 7 degrees, Moeller said he and his family will not be camped inside the RV watching. The diehard fans will be in the comfort of the impressive enclosed U.S Bank Stadium.

The engine of the 2006 Georgetown RV keeps on flying. “Knock on wood, I just have had to do some work to the generator over the years, and besides that, just brakes and normal wear and tear stuff and servicing it,” its owner said. “I change the decals when players come and go.”

Moeller is upbeat on “fly, Eagles fly” in their reprise to the heartbreaking 24-21 loss to the Patriots in 2005.

“If you really look at Tom Brady’s five Super Bowl wins,” Moeller began his answer, “he only beat the Eagles by three points, the Panthers by three points and the Rams by one possession. And they should have lost to Atlanta last year, and should have lost to Seattle. So he won by default on those two.”

So the Eagles, with their “adrenaline” pumping” and “the heart they have in it,” should be the winners, he said.

As the Fox 29 story said, Moeller’s already got the final destination of the year inked into his RV’s schedule: the victory parade in Philly.
