Long Beach Island PTA Holds Clothing Drive Fundraiser May 19

May 02, 2018

The community is encouraged to bring used clothes and accessories to the Ethel A. Jacobsen Elementary School parking lot from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, as part of a fundraiser to benefit the Parent Teacher Association of the Long Beach Island Consolidated School District. According to Lara Addiego and Colette Southwick, who chair the drive, the group is collecting wearable clothing of all sizes, as well as shoes, accessories, household items, bikes and stuffed animals.

Accessories include: handbags, backpacks, belts, hats, scarves, gloves, briefcases and ties. Household items can include: blankets, sheets, pillows, tablecloths, curtains and towels. The PTA asks that items be placed in tightly tied plastic bags.

Books, CDs and DVDs will not be accepted. And, in a change from past years, A&E Clothing Corp., which processes the items, is no longer taking home décor, hard toys or baby items.

“Donations will be picked up, weighed and processed,” said Addiego. “All donated items are used; nothing is shredded.

“It’s a great way to clean out your closets and help your school,” they added. “Thank you for your support!”

Proceeds go directly to the LBI PTA for every pound collected. Tax receipts will be issued.

The PTA will also be selling “Fun Day” passes to Thundering Surf Water Park and Settlers Mill Adventure Golf, both in Beach Haven, from 10 a.m. until noon during the clothing drive. Passes are $31 per person –cash only – and allow the passholder to one day of unlimited access to the water park, Flow House and two golf courses. The passes are good for any Friday, Saturday or Sunday until Labor Day.

The E.J. School is located at 200 South Barnegat Ave. in Surf City. —J.K.-H.
