Lots of Happy Feet

Jan 16, 2019

To the Editor:

Woo hoo! Kiwanis of LBI had a banner year this year with our “Happy Feet” new sock collection.

This year was our third year collecting new socks from June 30 to Dec. 3 to be donated to our veterans, homeless veterans, active military, children in need and victims of domestic abuse. We collected a total of 5,069 pairs of socks for men, women and children. Since 2016, when we first started collecting socks, we have reached a total of 12,400 pairs.

Thanks go out to: LBI Consolidated School District, Stafford Intermediate School, Russell O. Brackman Middle School, Southern Regional High School Key Club and MATES Key Club. (The students were all so generous in the number of socks collected.) Also: Between the Sheets, Manahawkin Elks, Stafford and Surf City libraries, Trident Fitness, Retro Fitness, Bay Avenue Community Center, Long Beach Township Police Department, Ship Bottom Borough Hall, Harvey Cedars Municipal Building, St. Peter’s at the Light, St. Mary’s Rectory Barnegat, St. Francis Secular Franciscans, First United Methodist Church Beach Haven Terrace, Octopus’s Garden, The Maximilian Foundation, VFW, Kiwanis Flea Market (funds were collected by Key Clubs to purchase socks), Ship Bottom Concerts, and a Kiwanis-sponsored concert at Long Beach Township, free concerts and 510 Shore Ave. Dixons, and Kiwanis Sock Hop Dance. We thank all the generous individuals throughout the communities, family and friends, people who visited the website and those at the free concerts who gave monetary donations. The Kiwanis of LBI would like to express our appreciation for the generosity and support of our LBI and mainland communities in taking the time, energy and compassion in helping us to reach our goals.

Our Kiwanis family is a devoted group with our mission always being about improving children’s lives and the communities where they live. A warm pair of new socks keeps feet warm, prevents many common ailments, reduces bacteria and aids in medical problems. It helps a homeless person rise above the difficult circumstances of their lives and gives everyone dignity.

We will be looking for all of your help again in 2019 beginning on June 30 and running through Dec. 3. Anyone who would like to be part of this “Happy Feet” sock drive or make a monetary donation may contact Faith Dixon at 609-405-2834 or xwebsbf@comcast.net, Stacey Goddard at 609-709-1772 or stay825@comcast.net ,or kiwanislbi.org.
