Loveladies Tennis Club to Host Multiple Round-Robin Events Open to All

Jul 11, 2018

Tennis, anyone? The Loveladies Tennis Club soon will host a pair of round-robin events that are open to the community. So if tennis is your game, mark your calendars for these fun opportunities.

On Saturday, July 14, from 8 to 11 a.m., the club hosts the first Play By the Bay Round Robin, designed as a social gathering for all levels of tennis enthusiasts. During the round-robin style event, players will be matched up in pairs to play doubles games which will last 20 minutes, at which time new pairs will be devised, the next 20-minute interval will take place, and so on.

Admission is free, and the club’s Har-Tru surfaces – commonly referred to as green clay – may provide a new playing experience for some players.

“It’s good to have experience, but the skill level of the player isn’t too important, because with this event one player who isn’t a high-level player might be matched with a high-level player,” said Tom Delbury, the club’s on-site professional. “We want everybody to have an enjoyable experience playing tennis for a couple of hours. It’s the first time we’re doing this, and it should be a lot of fun.”

On Friday, July 27, the club is hosting its second annual Love/One II, a fundraising event to benefit the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, from 5 p.m. until dusk.

Also being played in a round-robin format, matching players of varying skill levels to play for fun, participants are asked to make a donation of $50 or more. All money raised will go to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Participants are encouraged to register in advance at cfbnj.org/loveone2.

For those who want to donate cash, envelopes are available to pick up at the club, located at Riviera Drive and Long Beach Boulevard, Loveladies. Last year, the event raised more than $5,000 for the food bank.

With locations in Hillside and Egg Harbor Township, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey is the state’s largest anti-hunger and anti-poverty organization, which works with volunteers, donors and many partners to help individuals and families in need of assistance.
