Stafford Township is gaining an ALDI discount supermarket on Monday, Dec. 19. It may not look that way less than two weeks out, but it’s coming. The building exterior, interior and the parking lot at 451 Martin Truex Jr. Boulevard (across from Walmart and in front of BJ’s) were still in the end stages of construction Dec. 7, but the invitations were out for the grand opening.

The company is celebrating with incentives for shoppers who come to the opening. Right after the 8:45 a.m. ribbon-cutting Dec. 19, the first 100 shoppers in line will receive a “golden ticket” containing ALDI gift cards in various amounts. Those on hand can also enter a Produce for a Year Sweepstakes as part of the opening celebration, and they can sample food items in the store.

“High-quality grocery items at incredibly low prices” is the hallmark of ALDI, as the Germany-based company describes. ALDI states that customers save up to 50 percent on their grocery bills, “based upon a price comparison of comparable products sold at leading national retail grocery stores.”

ALDI’s approach to retailing is self-described as simple and streamlined.

“ALDI sells the most frequently purchased grocery and household items, primarily under its exclusive brands, which must meet or exceed the national name brands on taste and quality,” the company states.

“ALDI is so confident in the quality of its products, the company offers a Double Guarantee: If for any reason a customer is not 100 percent satisfied with any ALDI food product, ALDI will gladly replace the product and refund the purchase price.”

Previously, the nearest ALDI in New Jersey was in Toms River. The Manahawkin store will join about 1,600 others in 34 states in America, and others in 18 countries. It is one of the world’s largest privately owned companies.

“We’re excited to bring our Simply Smarter Shopping experience to Manahawkin and help customers stretch their dollars with our exclusive brand products – including fresh meats, fruits, vegetables and bakery items,” said Bob Grammer, Center Valley division vice president for ALDI.

The look of the Manahawkin store is built on input from ALDI customers elsewhere. The plan is for more room for customers’ favorite products, inviting colors, high ceilings, natural lighting, and environmentally friendly building materials, such as energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.

Organic produce is one grocery feature, as is USDA Choice beef, the liveGfree gluten-free product line and the SimplyNature line of products free from over 125 artificial ingredients and preservatives. All exclusive brand food products are free of added MSG, certified synthetic colors and partially hydrogenated oils.

ALDI was honored with the 2015 Supermarket News Retail Achievement Award, recognizing the company for its ongoing business expansion and product evolution.

The location will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
